About AcceptsSection8

We take the housing data HUD already publishes and turn it into pages a person can actually use on a phone — the office that takes your Section 8 application, its phone number, and the subsidized buildings near you.

Why this site exists

HUD publishes an enormous amount about assisted housing. Almost none of it is written for the person who needs it. The datasets are spreadsheets with column names like SECTION8_UNITS_CNT; the locators are maps that time out on a slow phone; and the sites that rank for "section 8 housing near me" are often lead-generation pages that promise apartments they cannot deliver.

So we did the boring part: pulled HUD's records, cleaned them, and put one page behind every state and city, with the phone number in plain sight.

What we publish

What we are not

We are not HUD, a housing authority, a landlord, or a broker. We cannot put you on a waiting list, check your application, or get you an apartment. We never charge for anything, and no legitimate site should charge you to apply for Section 8 — the application is free everywhere.

We also do not list private landlords who accept vouchers. There is no official national list of them, so publishing one would mean making it up. What we do instead is explain how to find those landlords yourself.

Who writes this

Pages are written and maintained by the AcceptsSection8 editorial team, working directly from HUD's published records and program rules. Every factual claim on the site links to its source — HUD, HUD User, or the housing authority itself. We do not publish figures we cannot point at.

Our full standards, including how we handle corrections and how often we re-check figures, are in our editorial policy.

How this is paid for

The site is free to use and free of charge to housing authorities and properties. We expect to carry advertising in future; if and when we do, ads will be labeled and will never be dressed up as listings or recommendations. No property or authority can pay to appear, be ranked higher, or be removed.

Found something wrong?

Phone numbers change, properties close, and HUD's files lag behind reality. If something here is wrong, tell us with the form at the bottom of any page and we will check it against HUD's records. Corrections are the highest-priority work we do.
